Sam Magruder, a paleontologist and researcher of quantum theory, records his observations for science and for posterity when he realizes that he has slipped into finds himself in a time warp of some 80,000,000 years. Faced with dinosaurs, loneliness, and the knowledge that he will never return, Magruder nonetheless leaves a message for the future.

The preface to this book is by Arthur C. Clarke who carefully explains why it cannot happen that way. The afterword is by Stephen Jay Gould who who clarifies many passages in the text.

This was Simpson's only book. It  was found in his desk after his death.
